Nellore: Banks and Central government offices remained closed for the third consecutive day in Nellore city at the instance of Samaikya Rashtra Parirakshana Vedika activists (Employees JAC) on Friday. The NGOs and teachers divided into teams and went around the town forcing every bank in the city to down their shutters. They have also targeted BSNL, post offices and LIC.
Samaikyandhra activists along with journalists of Sullurpeta obstructed the movement of buses carrying ISRO employees from Sullurpeta to the Spaceport at Sriharikota for over an hour on Friday.
The traffic on the national highway came to a grinding halt for over two hours when the activists squatted on the road raising slogans against the proposal to divide the state.
Advocates have taken out a rally on motorcycles in Nellore city.
Meanwhile the strike by all the government employees has been causing innumerable problems to the people of the region. As many as 18,000 NGOs, 3,000 revenue employees and 1,000 odd panchayat raj and zilla parishad staff are on strike for the last one month.
There is hardly any activity in otherwise busy collectorate which is wearing a deserted look from August 12 when the NGOs embarked on the agitation for state unity.
The agitation got a fillip after district officers association also resorted to strike. The day to day affairs like receiving mail and petitions is being handled by half a dozen outsourcing staff at the collectorate.
The employees on strike have been keeping a close vigil on different government offices to prevent their colleagues from attending to duties discretely. Only those nearing retirement are allowed to attend for duties as participation in the strike will have a bearing on their retirement benefits.
