Vijayawada: All gazetted officers in the district, excluding the district collector, joint collector and sub-collector, on Saturday opted for mass casual leave, extending their support to the Samaikyandhra movement against the Centre’s decision to bifurcate the state.

About 80 gazetted officers of various departments, on the first day of their five-day mass casual leave, took out a candle light rally from Officer’s Club to the sub-collector office in the evening, where additional joint collector B.L. Chennakesava Rao said that they would not hesitate to strike indefinitely if the situation demands.

Meanwhile, the indefinite strike by employees of more than 40 departments, including the RTC, treasury, municipal, panchayat and library, entered its 25th day on Saturday.

Municipal engineers are already on strike and electricity employees plan to join them from September 11.

Political JAC and Students’ JAC members took out a huge rally in support of the APNGOs meeting in Hyderabad and demanded an all-party committee on the CWC’s decision.

Traders at Gollapudi formed a human chain across the National Highway and staged protests. demanding that the state remain united.

At Benz Circle, Earthmovers Association members organised a huge rally from Autonagar to Benz Circle and formed a human chain with about 30 earthmovers.

Streets aflame due to Congress: Chandrababu Naidu

Vijayawada: Stating that the Congress’ unilateral decisionon state bifurcation has resulted in lakhs of people expressing their ire in Seemandhra region, Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the ruling party was using the Telangana issue for political gains.

Naidu toured several villages in Nuzvid constituency as part of his Atma Gourava Yatra on Saturday where he told the people that the Congress’ decision to bifurcate AP was taken as it feared that the TD would win the coming elections.

Naidu promised that if the Congress fails to protect the interests of Seemandhra region, the TD would launch an agitation.

Naidu started the second day of his yatra in Krishna district from Surampalli and toured Adavinekkalm, Potavarappadu, Agiripalli, Ravicharla, Boravancha and Nuzvid.

The TD chief alleged that the Congress has colluded with both the TRS and YSR Congress to defeat his party in the coming elections.

Like on Friday, Naidu preferred to target the Congress and YSR Congress throughout his speech, appealing to the people to teach a lesson to the ruling party for its anti-people policies.
