Rajahmundry: The ongoing stir for Samaikyandhra goes unabated with more number of people from a cross section of the society joining it and organising a series of protests including relay hunger strike, rallies, dharnas, rasta roko, vanta varpu and playing games on the roads with a demand for the state to remain united in Godavari districts on Thursday.
In Rajahmundry, non-gazetted employees, civic employees, lawyers, students of Adikavi Nannaya University and YSR Congress supporters are carrying out relay hunger strike for several days.
Rajahmundry Bar Association members wearing black coats took out bike rally expressing their opposition for the proposed bifurcation of the state to carve out a separate Telangana.
At Amalapuram, several employees, students and supporters of several political parties took out rallies.
Lecturers working in government junior colleges floated Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samiti at a meeting held in government junior college in Rajahmundry under the leadership of Kothapalli Veerraju. They worked out an action plan to stage stir.
Accordingly, they will take out a rally with students on August 23, carry out bike rally on August 24, conduct mock classes for students on roads on August 26, take mass casual leave on August 27, take up postcard campaign on August 28, offer flowers to the legislators and seek their resignations on August 29, conduct a rally with students on August 30 and organise a rally with tra-ders and others on August 31.
At Eluru, the protagonists of Samaikyandhra organised a series of demonstrations at several centres in the town. Civic employees organised vanta varpu at municipal corporation office while women employees played Cricket.
Telugu Desam state vice-president Maganti Venkateswara Rao inaugurated a relay hunger strike camp set up by the party supporters at Vasantha Mahal centre. Revenue employees took part in deekshas organised at Fire Station centre while purohits associated with Gayatri Purohita Sangham also performed deekshas.
Zilla Parishad employees offered a representation in a symbolic manner opposing proposed bifurcation of the state to the statue of Indira Gandhi at ZP premises. Farmers took out a protest rally with bullock carts. At Kalla, Undi MLA Vetukuri Sivarama Raju staged a novel protest by lying down on the road and got himself trampled upon by the bullock carts at Peda Amiram in WG district.
