Hyderabad: Seemandhra Union ministers who met the A.K. Antony committee on Thursday evening demanded the appointment of a second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) to look into the creation of a Telangana state.
They also demanded that the process of creating the new state should be stopped. The ministers met the committee at the AICC war room and submitted a memorandum seeking appointment of a second SRC as the Congress Working Committee had passed a resolution to this effect earlier.
When they were told that the CWC decision to bifurcate the state is irrevocable, the ministers suggested that Hyderabad should be made a Union territory.
Briefing the media after the meeting, AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, said that Seemandhra leaders have appraised them about the latest situation in Seemandhra and the ongoing agitation.
The ministers asked the Antony committee to visit Hyderabad to meet local leaders. Singh said he has no objection to visiting the state and receiving representations. Seemandhra state ministers and MLAs decided not to meet the Antony committee in Delhi and insist that it should visit the state.
So that everyone has the opportunity to put forth their viewpoint. Seemandhra ministers want the high command to stop the process of creating Telangana State till the Antony committee gives its report, otherwise, the committee serves no purpose. They also feel that if bifurcation is inevitable, they must bargain on the status of Hyderabad city at least.
