Visakhapatnam: The district administration is preparing ground for taking action against pharma industries lacking permissions in the light of frequent fire accidents at the units. Very recently, officials issued notices to 17 industries, according to sources.
The Jawaharlal Nehru pharma city has been set up in 2,300 acres at Thadi, Thanam, E. Bonangi and Lemarthi villages where facilities have been provided for 110 pharma units. However, only 44 units have been established and 16 others are under construction. Another 50 industries have to start their units.
Of the existing 44 units, a majority lack permissions from the fire department and have been found to be deviating the government’s guidelines. During raids after fire mishap at Glochem unit, it was found that 17 units were lacking permissions and served notices to them. Some grace period has been given to obtain the necessary approvals.
