Archanaa gets reel

DC | Priya Sreekumar | 24th May 2013

Lady Luck is smiling on Archanaa Guptaa. The Agra girl has bagged two projects in M’town — Rasputin and Hangover. Both the films happen to be a celebration of youth and have a bunch of youngsters acting alongside her.  Though Archanaa is from the North, the South industry has welcomed her with open arms, what with her acting in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and even a Russian film.

Talking about the Mollywood offers, Archanaa says, “I had received an offer from Mollywood earlier but I was reluctant to accept because I had heard that acting in  a Malayalam film is tough! When the offer for these two films came, I finally decided that acting is what I do, and I should take it up!” She has signed  yet another Malayalam film which will be announced shortly.

Archanaa is gung ho about her Mollywood experience, saying that her directors and co-actors were a great support system. Mollywood also seems to have enamoured her with its storylines. She gushes, “The scripts of Malayalam films are  close to reality! In other industries, there are item dances introduced for titillation but M’town prefers to steer clear of all that. The storylines reflect  real life families and there is nothing loud about Mollywood, be it in costumes or acting.”

For a model like Archanaa, getting a break into tinsel-town was a cakewalk. She never faced any struggle. With her interest in plays, theatre and dance, her friends suggested that she try her luck in films, so she circulated her photos. It took just two days before Hindi film offers  began coming her way and she started working.  Today, she shuttles between all the South industries.   “Acting is  hard and a tough job to do!” she says.
