Warangal: Dr Udumala Bala has been elected as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warangal, where the post had been lying vacant since 2011 after the elevation of Thumma Bala as the Archbishop of Hyderabad.      

Set for formal installation as Bishop on May 23 at the Fatima Cathedral in Kazipet, Dr U. Bala would be consecrated to the office by Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) president Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio and Archibishop of Hyderabad Thumma Bala.    

Born on June 18, 1954, to Udumala Joji Reddy and Jethruthamma in Gudur village of Warangal, Dr U. Bala has a master’s degree in Philosophy from the Osmania University and a doctorate in moral theology from Italy in 1994.
