Chennai: A Saidapet court granted police custody to four bookies who were arrested in connection with IPL betting racket, in Chennai on Tuesday. XI Metropolitan Magistrate Saravanan permitted CB-CID police to interrogate Harsih Bajaj of Choolai, Virudhachalam alias Vedachalam of R.A. Puram Lucky alias Narbath of Purasawalkam and Praveen Kumar alias Papu Gautham of Sowcarpet up to May 24.
The court has also issued notice to the Government on a bail petition moved by a prime accused in the illegal network, Prasanth M. Paul, 48, who surrendered at CB-CID office on Monday. The court has adjourned the matter to May 23.
According to sources, another prime accused Sanjay Bafna, who is absconding since the arrest of cricketer Sreesanth and others, has planned to approach the court seeking bail. Police have conducted enquiries with his wife and brother in the house.
Meanwhile, CB-CID teams conducted searches at the residences of bookies in various places and sealed three houses. Police conducted search at the residence of Prasanth in Ayanavaram, Kitty alias Utham Jain in Vepery on Tuesday.
The cops have recovered more than Rs 40 lakh in cash, several incriminating documents, laptops, several sim cards and diaries from the houses of bookies.
