Chennai: The Madras high court on Thursday granted bail to 28 accused  arrested on November 7, 2012, in connection with the caste violence in Dharmapuri district, in which houses belonging to Dalits were torched by a mob after a caste Hindu man committed suicide over his daughter marrying a dalit boy.

Justice R. Subbiah, who granted bail to Sakthivel and 27 others, said taking note of the period of incarceration and also considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the petitioners were enlarged on bail with stringent conditions.

The judge said the petitioners have to execute a bond for Rs 10,000 each with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of judicial magistrate-II, Dharmapuri. They should stay in Salem and report before the Salem town police daily at 10.30 am.
