Romancing the vampire

DC | Priya Sreekumar | 08th Feb 2013

She is all set to draw first blood at the box office. Monal Gajjar will be debuting in Mollywood with the thriller movie Dracula 3D directed by Vinayan which releases today. Born and brought up in Ahmeadabad, Monal ironically made her first appearance in a Telugu movie down South after which she said yes to the Malayalam offer.

She explains her reasons for accepting a film based on the vampire: “The role was quite interesting and apart from that, the film is multi lingual and is a 3D movie. I get to play two shades, which is very challenging for an actor.” The film had its share of controversies and was in the making for quite some time, so was that agonising? Monal replies, “I regret only one thing about the film — the language! I still cannot understand the language and what made the going more tough was that not many of the crew knew English, which made communication all the more difficult.”

Monal goes on to recall some scenes that remain fresh in her memory. She says, “I have this scene where I have to throw big pots at my hero Aryan and I was so petrified of hitting the camera, the cameraman or Aryan himself. I also had to shout a lot for the movie because of which I lost my voice.” Monal confesses that she is a big fan of the original Dracula and has seen many Dracula movies. Currently busy with Tamil and Telugu projects, she plans to complete the South circuit this year by signing on a Kannada film.

For now she has sworn off Malayalam films till she grasps the language better admitting, “I find Tamil language is the easiest to pick up.” She ends by saying that she would love to do action and comedy too adding that glamour is only one side of an actress.
