Hyderabad: After Adilabad, Nizamabad and Hyderabad, another case has been filed in Warangal district against MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for his alleged hate speeches.
A resident of Jangaon, Dileep, approached a local court seeking action against the MIM leader who allegedly made controversial comments on Hindu community and its Gods and Goddesses. After hearing the petition, the Jangaon Court directed the police to book a case.
Meanwhile, Akbaruddin Owaisi on Monday moved the High Court to quash the cases levelled against him in the lower courts and to grant bail.
Akbaruddin Owaisi filed a petition in the High Court to quash all the cases foisted on him and direct the police against arresting him. The court admitted the petition and posted the hearing for Wednesday.
Allegations baseless: Asaduddin
Earlier in the day, MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that his younger brother and party floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi returned from London by leaving his treatment incomplete.
Addressing a meeting of office bearers of party’s primary units, Asaduddin Owaisi said that Akbar had appointments with senior doctors in London. However, due to the pressure created by the BJP, media and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, he returned immediately without getting treatment.
The MIM president alleged that the allegations being levelled against Akbaruddin Owaisi were baseless. He asked as to why the police did not take any action immediately after the speeches were delivered. He said that the MIM was fighting against the communal forces in the country and Akbaruddin never insulted the Hindu community.
Asaduddin Owaisi accused the government and media of remaining mute spectators to the provocative speeches delivered against Muslims by VHP leader Praveen Togadia and others on several occasions. However, the BJP and a section of media was making an issue out of a speech delivered 10 days ago. He said those responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid were moving freely and they were never talked about.
The MIM president said that his party has complete faith on judiciary and would seek justice from the same. He alleged that a section of media has projected a notice sent to Akbaruddin Owaisi as a judgment delivered by a court. He said that the media has been pressurising the police to take hasty actions.
Panel takes note of speech
In a related development, the Ethics Committee of the State Legislative Assembly, which met here on Monday, took serious objection to the hate speech of MIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Members of the Ethics Committee said that the Speaker has the power to cancel the membership of any MLA if the conduct goes against the democratic norms and national interests.
The CPI member had taken serious view of the comments and said immediate action should be taken against Akbaruddin.
Ethics Committee chairman Bandaru Satyanrayana urged the Speaker to make clear the powers of the Committee. After going through Akbaruddin’s speech, we will recommend the Speaker to take appropriate action, he said.
Congress govt complacent: BJP
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday criticised the state government for not arresting Akbaruddin Owaisi after he returned from London to the city.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that Akbaruddin Owaisi should have been arrested after he landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad. He said although Akbaruddin has cited ill-health as the reason for his inability to appear before the Nirmal police station, he looked fresh and healthy when he landed at the airport.
Naidu alleged that despite announcements of severing ties, both the Congress and MIM have maintained their relationship. He said that the arrest was avoided at the instance of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. He also alleged that by spreading its activities to the bordering districts, the MIM was trying to reunite the erstwhile Hyderabad State.
Earlier, BJP workers burnt the effigy of Akbaruddin Owaisi at Maozamjahi Market for his alleged hate speeches. The BJP activists led by party corporators Vaikuntam and Lal Singh, also staged rasta roko for almost an hour. Later, they were taken into custody by the police and released later.
Talking to reporters, BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreyya demanded that the State Government take stern action against Akbaruddin Owaisi for insulting Hindu Gods while imposing a ban on the MIM. He said that the police was afraid of arresting the MIM leader
Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary G Niranjan on Monday alleged that MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi was afraid of facing the court over his alleged hate speeches.
In a media statement, Niranjan said that at one side MIM leaders claim that they were brave and respect the law. However, on the other side Akbaruddin Owaisi did not appear before the Nirmal police station by getting himself admitted in their own hospital on health grounds. “Owaisi has also approached the High Court pleading not to register any fresh cases against him. This clearly shows their scant respect towards the laws of the land and their dubious nature,” he said.
“Asaduddin Owaisi, who is accusing that cases foisted against Akbaruddin Owaisi were a conspiracy of Congress and BJP, should clarify whether the provocative speeches made by Akbaruddin were also part of this conspiracy,” Niranjan asked.
