Road safety awareness campaign begins

Vijayawada: The deputy transport commissioner, A. Mohan, launched road safety awareness campaign here on Tuesday as part of national road safety week celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, he said to create awareness among vehicle users this programme is organised every year. Road safety awareness classes would be conducted for vehicle users, drivers and students.

He said that there was 15 per cent increase in accident rate in the state due to increase in the number of vehicles on the road. He said 14,000 people died in road accidents in the state during 2012.

In Krishna district, 756 people died in road accidents last year. He said majority of accident cases occur due to human error.

The affixing of stickers in head light alone not the celeberation of safety awareness campaign but also punish the riders without stickers on head lights on 4/6 wheeler vehicles. Accidents taken place at the night hours on non-dipping of lights and is flashed to eyes of riders in the opposite direction and cause difficultty in riding the vehicles by old aged persons.
