The dream of innumerable fans of Super Star Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to watch their matinee idols share screen space will materialise soon. The 1979 blockbuster romantic musical Ninaithale Inikkum is set to be re-released in a new avatar in an enhanced digitalised version soon. The good response at the box office to the digital re-release of thespian Sivaji Ganesan’s ’60s classic  Karnan has set the trend.

Kamal was an established actor when Rajini debuted in K’town in the late ’70s. Ninaithale Inikkum was directed by ace filmmaker K. Balachandar who is acknowledged to be the mentor of both stars and the music was  composed by the evergreen M.S. Viswanathan. Kamal played the role of the lead singer of a musical troupe who romances a mysterious woman in a role brilliantly essayed by Jayapradha.

The Super Star’s role was technically that of a supporting character, but the actor’s brilliant comic timing became the high point of the movie.
In the early ’80s, the two stars decided to chart their own careers and have not starred together except for ‘guest roles’ in Tamil and Hindi films. In a recent interview, Kamal also indicated that the two coming together in a film is next to impossible. “If I am to star alongside Rajini in a film, the budget won't be within easy reach of any producer… I feel sky would be the limit for such a film when it comes to business at the box-office!” he had said.

Raj TV which holds the rights of Ninai-thale Ini kkum is re-releasing the flick which has been digitalised with latest grading and in a high end stereo sound format. The two living legends, along with KB and maestro Vishwanathan, are being roped in for a mammoth stage event to be held in the third week of January in the city when the new Ninaithale... will be unleashed.

Confirming the news, a Raj TV source told DC, “We would be re-releasing Ninaithale Inikkum in an unprecedented manner in about 500 screens globally once the two biggies Rajini and Kamal make a joint official announcement at our proposed show during mid January. At a time when the buzz about the two coming together is getting louder, the film would definitely get a huge response from fans of both the iconic stars.”
