Mysore: Karnataka batsmen ruled the roost for the second day running as the hosts amassed 619/8 before declaring their first innings against Vidarbha in their Ranji Trophy Group `B' clash in Mysore on Sunday.

The track at the Gangotri Glades ground offered very little to the visitors bowlers, who suffered under the barrage of runs and the leader of the home heroics was wicket-keeper batsman C.M. Gautam.

The in-form Gautam continued his purple patch and made the season all too memorable, smashing his maiden first class double ton (257, 394b, 20x4) before he was the last batsman to be dismissed as Karnataka skipper Vinay Kumar opted for declaration at the stroke of tea on Day 2.

Vidarbha's left-right opening combine of Faiz Fazal and Shiv Sundar Das negotiated 25 overs to reach 48/0 at stumps though the former survived a couple of confident lbw shouts during his 71ball stay in the middle.

It was a marathon innings by Gautam, overnight on 129, as he continued his rich vein of form, embellishing his innings with some trademark drives.

Overnight partner and centurion K.L. Rahul departed for 157, falling for a loose drive to be caught in the slips off Ravi Thakur.

The early breakthrough, in the seventh over, hardly changed Vidarbha's fortunes as Gautam's vigilance was complemented by aggressive knocks from Manish Pandey (53, 44b, 8x4) and Stuart Binny (85, 108b, 8x4, 2x6) to power Karnataka's cause.

Vidarbha skipper Sairaj Bahutule used nine bowlers altogether in the innings spanning 155 overs and the last one to turn the arm over in the list, part-time medium pacer Shalabh Shrivastava accounted for both Pandey and Binny, much after the duo had inflicted enough damage.

In a bid to push for some quick runs, Vinay and A.Mithun were sent in early leaving specialist batsman Kunal Kapoor to come as late as No. 9 before Gautam's dismissal put an end to the rival bowlers' misery.

Karnataka, looking for full points from this contest to stay alive in the quarterfinal race, will be hoping for some wear and tear in the track which so far has proved to be a belter.
