Bengaluru: Bengaluru: Imagine an app that lets you chat with your online friends without access to Internet or an app that helps you build your own app. Well, these were the kind of innovative apps that young developers who participated at India’s biggest SMS-App Developer Challenge – App2Fame 2012 came out with.
txtWeb recently announced the much awaited results of its App2Fame Developer Challenge and gave away prizes worth Rs 7.5 lakh to the winners. The award ceremony was held in association with the UnPluggd event held in MLR Convention Centre, Bengaluru.
With this national level developer challenge, txtWeb offers a platform to the aspiring developers to create innovative tools and applications. The contest received an overwhelming response and the applicants came from a diverse background of start-ups, business professionals and students.
“With an increasing surge of mobile applications across platforms and devices, we urge the young developer community to combine their skills, knowledge and creativity to build innovative applications on a global platform like txtWeb,” said Srividhya Ramarathnam, India Business Head, txtWeb.
“With txtWeb we are looking at bridging the digital divide and empowering millions of mobile users with access to information on their mobile phone sans internet. We are extremely glad with the response we have got so far for App2Fame and elated to have inspired the young creative minds,” she further added.
The awards were given out to the developers under several categories such as “Most Popular”, “Open Source” and “Business Solutions” Award. The grand prize winner under each of these categories received INR 1, 00,000, followed by Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 for second and third prize winners respectively.
The grand prize for the Most Popular App went to Murali Krishna and Santosh Kumar for @fbc app which is a simple and secure app to chat with online friends via just a SMS.
Vihang Gosavi was adjudged the grand prize winner for the Open Source category for his @phplib, an app that provides open APIs (application programming interface) that any developer can use to build an app.
The grand prize for Business Solutions category was bagged by Vivek Sancheti and Bhargava Joshi for their app- @ivs (Information Via SMS). This app can be used by educational institutes to declare results, update attendance records, time tables and many other data like syllabus, via SMS.
The contest was judged by industry stalwarts like, Alok Mittal- MD, Canaan Partners, Vijay Anand- Vice President, Intuit India Development Centre, Bengaluru and Shouvick Mukherjee- VP & CEO, Yahoo India R&D.
